Save Our Marine Life Volunteer Meetings
The biggest Australian conservation decision is about to be made and you can be a part of it! To make sure our marine life gets the protection it so urgently needs, we need people who care to be involved.
While volunteering for Save Our Marine Life, you’ll meet likeminded people whilst helping protect our amazing South West marine life, and having fun!
You can help us to raise the profile of our marine environment by helping out with events and coming along to regular volunteer meetings on the 1st Thursday and 3rd Wednesday of every month. At meetings we work out ways to get the word out there, get creative with things like prop making and banner painting, have guest speakers, training workshops, video nights and regular updates on the campaign. New volunteers are always welcome.

Sandy Seal’s Oceanfest!
Flying fish, a mechanical surfboard and a dolphin themed educational experience will be front and centre of Sandy Seal’s Oceanfest, a community event in Bedford, WA presented by the Conservation Council of Western Australia’s Save Our Marine Life program.
Oceanfest will mix fun and education in a special celebration of Western Australia’s unique marine life.
Special guests will include the Bunbury Dolphin Discovery Centre, a non-profit organisation committed to dolphin research, education, conservation and tourism. They are considered WA’s Premier wild dolphin experience and their education and research centre is a major Bunbury tourist attraction. They will turn Beaufort Hall into a ‘hands on’ science display, giving kids a window into the world of dolphins and other marine life, including learning how to identify a dolphin by their fins. Kids will also be able to try on Scuba gear, breathe through a regulator and win prizes with Perth Scuba.
Oceanfest will also feature fun activities like a mechanical surfboard ride, face painting, remote controlled flying fish races, colouring-in compeititon with prizes and a chance to contribute to a giant whale mural. There will be video footage of the many marine creatures found in WA’s waters and some short films about marine life and conservation.
There will be a sausage sizzle and fresh coffee available from a coffee van.

Back by Popular Demand: The End of the Line at Luna on SX, Fremantle, WA
Can you imagine a world without fish? Narrated by Ted Danson The End of the Line uses compelling interviews with leading scientists and sweeping underwater cinematography to tell the story of the devastating impacts of overfishing on the world’s oceans, and how we can each help to turn it around.
The ABC’s Margaret and David gave the film 3.5 and 4 stars; adding “it has a tremendous impact… that’s the importance of this film, because with knowledge comes power.” The full review is available online.
Opening night Sunday September 19th, 6.30pm, will feature guest speaker Tim Nicol, Coordinator of Save Our Marine Life and The End of the Line (Australia). Tickets from Luna on SX or on the night. The End of the Line sold out 14 advanced screenings in WA and the Northbridge premiere, so bookings recommended!
Part proceeds of all ticket sales go to help protect WA’s unique marine life; currently less than 1% of our southwest waters are protected.

The End Of The Line film screenings
Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this year, the powerful new documentary uses interviews with world leading scientists, activists and fishermen, brilliant underwater footage and sweeping cinematography to tell the story of the devastating impacts of over-fishing on our oceans and fishing communities, and the simple solutions to the problem. It has been described as the ‘Inconvenient Truth’ of our oceans.
The attendance at community screenings of the End Of The Line has been overwhelming and generated great momentum around the movement for marine protection.
If you wish to find out more about organising a screening of this film in your local community, please contact Tim Nicol of Save Our Marine Life.
