The Buccaneer Archipelago Marine parks have been announced!
The Bardi Jawi Gaarra, Mayala and Maiyalam marine parks are Australia’s first marine parks to be co-designed with Traditional Owners – a breakthrough for culture and conservation.
These new marine parks were a vital piece of the protection puzzle for this phenomenal region, which contains the world’s last pristine tropical coastline.
Covering 600,000 hectares around the thousand islands of the Buccaneer Archipelago, the new marine parks will protect an oasis of marine life, including whales, turtles, dolphins, fish, and rare corals.
Join us in congratulating the Traditional Owners and WA Government for creating these marine parks!
