Protect Kangaroo Island’s endangered sea lions
Seal Bay on Kangaroo Island is home to one of the world’s most important breeding colonies for endangered Australian sea lions.
Too many of these playful animals are dying after being hit by boats or becoming entangled in marine debris.
Right now, the South Australian Government is looking to expand sanctuary protection at Seal Bay. But to get this over the line, we need to show strong public support.
Expanding the fully protected ocean sanctuary here will provide a safe haven where sea lions can find food securely and their pups can grow up healthy and strong.
We need to act now! The government consultation ends soon, which means we have very little time to call for stronger protection.
Add your signature today! Demand a bigger marine sanctuary for Seal Bay and give these amazing creatures every chance to survive.

Dear Deputy Premier Susan Close,
I write to wholeheartedly support the proposed amendments to the Southern Kangaroo Island Marine Park and Seal Bay Sanctuary Zone.
Seal Bay is home to one of the biggest and most important colonies of the Australian sea lion (Neophoca cinerea), now listed as an endangered species under national environment law. It has been identified by the Australian government as a priority place to concentrate conservation efforts.
Australian sea lion numbers have been in decline for several decades. It is estimated that fewer than 12,000 individuals still live across the southern Australian coastline, where they are endemic.
You can help turn this tragic situation around by expanding the Seal Bay Sanctuary Zone to increase protection of critical breeding and foraging grounds.
Thank you for consulting with the community and I look forward to seeing this Marine Park Sanctuary Zone expansion implemented as soon as possible.
Help protect Kangaroo Island’s endangered sea lions by supporting a sanctuary expansion that will create a safe haven for them to feed, thrive, and raise their pups.
