The Australian Government has just released its plan for the future of Australia’s South-east Marine Park Network, and they’re asking for our feedback.

This is a rare chance to help protect waters which are home to endangered species like blue whales and albatrosses, and the fragile ecosystems of the Great Southern Reef.

As part of this consultation process, we also have the opportunity to finalise the world-class marine protection we secured last year for Australia’s Macquarie Island.

By flooding the government with support for stronger marine sanctuary protection, we can help give Australia’s South-east, and its spectacular marine life, a fighting chance.

But without your voice we risk the government backing down under pressure from big industry.

Safeguard our ocean: Call for strong South-east marine parks.

Off Australia’s south-east three great oceans merge to create a super-abundant and unique marine environment.

A huge upwelling of deep nutrient-rich water is created when the warm currents of the Pacific and Indian Oceans combine with the cold Southern Ocean.

Phytoplankton bloom and there is an explosion of krill. This generates a feast for seabirds, seals, dolphins and whales.

Yet, this stunning region, bursting with life, is threatened by seismic blasting, oil and gas development, marine heatwaves and industrial fishing.

It has some of the poorest marine park protection in the country – something we can change!

Add your name now to protect the whales, orcas, little penguins, dolphins, sharks, fishes and fur seals that make south-east Australia’s oceans so special.

Also, as part of this consultation, the government will be finalising the huge Macquarie Island Marine Park in the Southern Ocean.

This is our chance to finalise the world-class marine protection we secured last year for Australia’s Macquarie Island.

From ocean surveillance to scientific research funding, it’s so important we get the plan for our South-east Marine Parks Network right.
