The Australian: Scientists call on Burke to extend protection of southwest marine life

MORE than 150 marine scientists have called on Environment Minister Tony Burke to extend the system of protecting Australia’s southwest marine life.
The scientists, who have signed a statement expressing concern that less than 3.5 per cent of the continental shelf in the southwest region is properly protected.
This is an area where both extraction of resources and biodiversity vales are most intense, the statement says.
