Say NO to the supertrawler

The Australian Government’s current ‘sham ban’ on supertrawlers only stops six of the world’s very largest boats above 130m. It didn’t, for example, stop the Geelong Star (aka Dirk Dirk) Supertrawler – which is still a massive 95m long and caught protected dolphins, seals and even a whaleshark as bycatch!

It is also gravely concerning that under questioning in Parliament, plans to allow overseas fishing fleets into Australia’s waters have not been ruled out.

Supertrawlers and overseas fleets are bad for marine life, bad for local fishing communities and bad for recreational fishers.

Sign the petition calling for a permanent ban on ALL supertrawlers in Australia’s vulnerable fisheries, and for a Senate inquiry into moves to allow overseas fishing fleets to fish in Australian waters.
